Gift wrap is expensive! It can also be hard to find good options for all the different occasions in life. As a mama who is always looking for ways to save a penny (and make life easier), this creative outlet for children saves you a few bucks-all while making their gift-giving experience more special (for the gift-giver and recipient). We have done this for all of the grandparents in our family and they love it! Both of our boys felt proud when they saw their grandparents’ reactions.
I thought of this idea when I realized that I cannot keep every piece of artwork my children make. Conveniently, I had some Mother’s Day gifts that need wrapping (and no wrapping paper to be found). Thus, my idea was born: Just use the children’s drawings! Easy, right?
Below are some pictures for an example of how I have “helped” the children wrap gifts. I’ve included two different ways to fold painted paper (I find these the easiest). Keep in mind that these paintings are on 8.5 x 11 thick card stock, so this paper is more sturdy. Therefore, other paper options may tear more easily when wrapping gifts. This is the paper we used: https://a.co/d/7NRzrlj. The children used Crayola Spill Proof Washable Paint Set (https://a.co/d/b5TK5NA). The “gift tags” were pieces of Cricut Smart Removable Vinyl in Transparent (https://a.co/d/8ysHJPE) that were left over from previous projects (cut down to fit our needs). Don’t forget to use scraps to make life easier and add variety to the gifts like we did with the bow made of yarn!
